Ryan set for additional trials

1 Agosto 2012 03:30

Central Coast goalkeeper Mat Ryan has secured additional trials at Premier League clubs after his stint with Tottenham finishes.

The Australian gloveman is set to extend his time in the United Kingdom to spend time at Wigan Athletic and West Bromwich Albion.

Ryan's one-week training stint with Spurs begins on Thursday after Andre Villas-Boas' men return from their pre-season tour of the United States, with the talented 20-year-old - called up to the full Australia squad in February - then to link up with two of the London club's top-flight rivals.

"Obviously Spurs have got two older keepers in Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini, so there is an opportunity there. It's just up to me to prove I have the potential," Ryan told The Daily Telegraph before his departure on Monday.

The Mariners had rejected interest from several Championship sides in taking Ryan on trial, including Burnley, but both trial requests from top-flight duo Wigan and West Brom have been accepted.

The A-League's 2011-12 goalkeeper of the year is now expected back in Australia in mid-August, re-joining the Mariners' training ahead of the new season's start in October.
